We build side tables that double as extension tables. In the Shaker style furniture line, this side table is an example of this dual purpose piece.
The side table's length is built to match the dining table's width. Simply place the side table to the end of the dining table to increase the total length by two feet. This is an option for those who only need the table slightly larger than the room can accommodate, maybe 2 - 3 times a year. Instead of buying leaves that live in the closet for most of the time, for roughly the same money (as an extension table) you get to enjoy a side table / server.
